Nominated as CBC’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30” in 2015, Hugo Laporte has a rich voice and an exceptional sense of interpretation.
The 24-year-old baritone is the 2014 winner of the OSM Manulife Competition, which has invited young national musicians to compete through various musical outlets in Montreal since 1940.
Laporte was named laurate of the 2015 International Competition of Marmande (France) and won third prize in the French melody category.
His roots in music first sprouted in childhood and throughout high school as he played violin, trumpet and sang in school groups.
Now the baritone is performing across the globe with upcoming shows with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Center symphony orchestra as well as at Erfurt Opera in Germany and the Opera de Massy in France.
During different voice programs and masterclasses, he worked under the direction of mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, baritone Jean-François Lapointe and soprano Benita Valente. Hugo is studying voice under the direction of Patricia Fournier.
