About "A year of light" and the Artist
I moved in Fort Smith a year and half ago. When people ask me why I love the north so much the first word that comes to my mind is light.
As a biologist and photographer I worked in places all over the world. Very few of those places offered such amazing light as the North. From the never-ending sunsets of winter to the northern lights that brighten the night, the lights of the north always offer something new to discover. Every day, light changes and slightly modifies the landscape, carving shadows and coloring nature. There are no simple days when we open ourselves to the impermanence and the beauty of light.
I spent my first year in the Northwest Territories chasing the lights during the coldest dark nights of winter to the warmest day of summer. I have never gotten tired of it. This exhibit and sale is trying to answer a simple question: why I fell in love with the north.
